Love Is A Strong Word The theme of destructive love within relationships in Shakespeare’s MacBeth and Bronte’s Wuthering Heights are presented through sexism, jealousy and betrayal. Destructive love is an active process of destroying the affection and tenderness between a couple. Both authors represent this kind love well in their respective stories. Lady MacBeth was a mastermind the way she had control in the beginning of Macbeth. She influenced MacBeth to do all his actions. An example of this is when Lady MacBeth told MacBeth â€Å"When you durst do it/then you are a man†(1.7.49). She is referring to Macbeth having second thoughts about killing Duncan, she criticizes his manliness. He is saying that you ll know you have done something but you choose ignore it .Witches played apart with Lady MacBeth to help plan out their murder. They affect their relationship because they make Macbeth feel guilty enough of until he commits suicide. Obviously that makes their relationship end. Bronte uses the supernatural as a big part of Wuthering Heights. It has an effect on Heathcliff with after the passing of his wife Catherine. He even digs up her body up just she will be in his hands. Heathcliff that her spirit is still with hi in the afterlife. HeathCliff also eventually passes away also, and people around say they saw both their spirits together.†I have a strong faith in ghosts: I have a conviction that they can, and do, exist among us!† (29.24). With Heathcliff says this he believes that Catherine’s ghost is still with him. Shakespeare switches up parts in relationships in Macbeth. Throughout the play Lady Macbeth is leading her marriage with Macbeth. Usually in sexist societies the man is the one who has control over their respective relationship.
